The 'What's Next?' Programme will address the knowledge and awareness levels of employment, training and education options available to young people identified through the Education System as 'at risk' of Early School Leaving (ESL) or those not applying for third level education and are unsure of what they are going to do when they leave school. At present some secondary schools are offering Careers Guidance, but generally focus on third level and Post Leaving Cert courses. The 'What's Next?' programme will engage with young people before they leave the education system, bridging the gap of leaving school with no progression route and registering on the Welfare System. Often, these young people end up becoming long-term unemployed (1yr+) before they become aware of the various opportunities available to them. Programme Structure  10 x schools x 2-day workshops (3 hours per session) - to work with a group of young people and provide information, advice and supports on their ‘options’ when they leave school if they are not planning on going on to third level education. Some do not have any progression route or plan in place and are unaware of what is available to them.  7 x schools x 2 hours briefing session This will be a distilled version of the workshop letting participants know of the options available when leaving school. Anticipated Outcomes  184 young people engaged with • Workshops: 10 schools x 10 students (min 8/max 12) = 100 students delivered • Briefing Sessions: 7 schools x 12 students = 84 delivered • I84 young people prompted to think about make a career plan where this might not have happened as well as being aware of support services available to them on leaving school
