Kilkenny LEADER Partnership Youth Training Programmes: Health, Fitness Food & Body Image for Young People

The programmes outlined here have been developed based on needs identified in the development of the LEADER Local Development Strategy, the profiling of County Kilkenny for the SICAP 2018 – 2022 bidding process (2017), the research that informed the reviewed Local Economic Community Plan. The programmes have also been developed in the context of the social and structural impacts being felt due to Covid 19. With 45% of young people in the labour force are currently unemployed - with 90,000 under-25s claiming the Pandemic Unemployment Payment it is more important than ever to engage those may not have a progression path after school and make them aware of supports available. Health, Fitness Food & Body Image for Young People This programme seeks to target new communities to help integration within the community through a bespoke fitness and health participation programme. Younger participants will be taught through games while older participants will be taught through group workshops, a unique individual health and fitness programme will be designed for each participant. Time has also been factored in for individuals to receive one on one training for those who do not feel confident working within groups. Programme Structure; • Three Health and Fitness & Body Image training Programmes aimed at 7 to 12-year olds, 13 to 15-year-olds and 16 to 24-year olds that are run over a 4-week period in 2020 and 2021. • P1. Age 7 – 12 Groups of 10 to 20 per session Fitness, Coordination, Mental Simulation Games • P2. Age 13 – 15 Groups of 10 per session Body Image Workshop, Individual Fitness Training Programme, Group Coaching & One on One Coaching • P3.
