Tender description
The Centre for Applied Anatomy has a student footfall in excess of 1400 and delivers teaching across 40 units and six programmes for 3 faculties. We need, and want, to maintain quality in our work and cognisant that the next period of blended/online provision will be a marathon and not a sprint, we are planning accordingly. Economies of teaching, such as shared Online Learning Opportunities (OLOs) will be utilised when possible. As ever, we aim to provide an excellent experience for our students. The ethos of our teaching lies in practical, hands-on and applied anatomy. Our professional students will never have a flat patient, and they won’t operate on textbooks, so we reason that as much anatomy teaching and learning as possible should be in 3D and on real tissues. Similarly, our science students need to be able to apply their knowledge. The hidden curriculum that our approach covers; 3D reasoning, spatial knowledge, manual dexterity, care and respect for human and animal tissues, laboratory and personal safety, ethics and law of cadaveric donation schemes and deductive reasoning is, we acknowledge, harder to address in an online environment. The Centre is proposing to provide human plastic bone sets for Medical, Dental and Anatomy students to use at home. This is part of an initiative to develop Anatomy@home for students whilst teaching in the dissection rooms is restricted due to the Covid-19 pandemic. The plastic bones will support home learning for approximately 550 students across the Faculty of Health Sciences.
