Cefas: Electronic Monitoring Systems Installation

Cefas is initiating a Scientific Electronic Monitoring programme to collect robust data on commercial fish catches. In 2020 the programme will deploy Electronic Monitoring (EM) systems aboard six commercial fishing vessels operating in the south west of England (vessel selection is currently underway). Cefas have procured the Black Box Electronic Monitoring systems from Anchor Lab K/S Denmark (http://www.anchorlab.dk/), which consist of the “Black Box” computer system, connected to a maximum of 5 HD cameras and various sensors. Cefas requires a competent marine electrical engineer or suitable organisation to safely install the camera systems aboard commercial fishing vessels. These installations must be undertaken under the direction of a Cefas scientist who will, in conjunction with the vessel skipper, determine the best positioning for the cameras and sensors to provide the catch data required. Following each installation, Cefas will require a formal sign-off that the equipment is electrically safe. Installation dates have not yet been determined and will depend on the recruitment of suitable vessels and travel and working restrictions related to Covid-19, but it is hoped that all installations can be completed by the end of August 2020. Dates for installations will be communicated as far in advance as possible. Cefas hopes to coordinate with skippers so that systems can be fitted consecutively to multiple vessels, thereby reducing the amount of travel required to each port. This cannot be guaranteed however, and tenderers should bear in mind that installations may need to be done individually in their pricing responses.
