Tender description

In anticipation of the requirements of the Water Framework Directive (WFD) Priority Substances Regulations SI. No. 386 of 2015, the Environmental Protection Agency wishes to tender for a Water Sampling and Analysis project to determine the likely presence or otherwise of the new substances listed in the Directive in the Irish aquatic environment. The results of this scoping programme will be used to determine what changes will need to be made to the EPA’s WFD monitoring programme. This project proposes to undertake a monitoring programme to determine the presence or otherwise of these 11 of these 12 new substances in the Irish aquatic environment. (Dioxins are excluded as it is felt sufficient data already exists for the purpose of this exercise). The results of this study will be used to determine what changes will need to be made to the EPA’s WFD monitoring programme. The project will assess the probable presence and extent or otherwise of the new substances and to use the results of this study to inform the extent of the EPA’s formal monitoring programme under the Water Framework Directive. Scope of Work Required: The proposed project is essentially in three parts:- 1. Sampling and Transport to the laboratory of water samples at approximately 20 locations including some basic on-site measurements. 2. Analysis and reporting of the results to EPA, within 25 days of sampling. It is envisaged that there will be two (2) sampling operations approximately July 2017 and October 2017 . 3. A limited amount of biota analysis on trout or coarse fish. Samples to be provided by Inland Fisheries Ireland (IFI). Biota analyses will only be required for those parameters which are listed in the Directive.
