Please note, the authority is consulting on the following 2 topics within this one preliminary market consultation: — preliminary market consultation 1 – transport of the deceased on behalf of HM Coroner (North East Lincolnshire and North Lincolnshire), — preliminary market consultation 2 – affordable funeral service (North East Lincolnshire only). Preliminary market consultation 1 – transport of the deceased on behalf of HM Coroner (covering North East Lincolnshire and North Lincolnshire). HM Coroner has a duty to move the deceased from the place of death to a mortuary for post mortem examination. The Coroners Transport Service conducts this service on behalf of HM Coroner. The authority aims to achieve the following objectives from this PMC: — to learn from the market if there are any barriers to the service, — to understand from the market if our current method of selecting the provider to collect the deceased is fit for purpose or if an alternative solution is available, and — to inform the market of our intentions and to prepare them for the potential future tender process. Preliminary market consultation 2 – affordable funeral service (covering North East Lincolnshire only). This PMC is looking at establishing an affordable funeral service, which is not about establishing a full funeral director business, but about being able to offer a low cost funeral option to the local community. The authority aims to achieve the following objectives from this PMC: — to learn from the market what the level of interest would be in managing and operating an affordable funeral service at the former cemetery lodge, — to develop an understanding of how a quality assured, accessible and affordable funeral service can be provided at the former cemetery lodge, — to understand whether a low cost funeral could be delivered for approximately 2 000 GBP. This would be the total cost to the family of the bereaved and would need to cover the costs of the affordable funeral provider’s, the collection of the deceased, crematorium fees for a normal time slot on any week day, medical fees, coffin cost, transporting of the deceased to the crematorium and service officiant’s fees, and — to understand what social value can be gained from any future affordable funeral service.
