Tender description
Hull City Council (the Authority) has been successful in its National Lottery Heritage Fund (‘NLHF’) second stage application for funding to restore the Time Ball at the Guildhall. (Further information is provided below). Additionally, the timeframe for the works to take place have coincided with a requirement for a major re-roofing programme also to The Guildhall. The Authority is now seeking bids from suppliers to undertake works as a Principal Main Works Contractor. There is this one tender only; however the successful tenderer will be awarded two separate contracts:- One contract relates to stone restoration works required on the Guildhall clock tower. This includes the installation of the new Greenwich Time ball mechanism (NOTE: the manufacture of the new Greenwich Time ball has been completed via a separate tender), and is also inclusive of the NLHF successful grant application. The second contract relates to re-roofing works to the Guildhall. While phase one of this re-roofing has been provided, the remaining roof area to be replaced is situated at the same end as the Guildhall clock tower. It is intended that the successful contractor will begin works on site on 7th September 2020, with the Guildhall Time Ball restoration works fully completing by the 29th January 2021 and the Guildhall re-roofing works completing by 5th March 2021. Note that works for the Guildhall Time Ball restoration will need to be at an advanced stage by 2nd November 2020, i.e. sufficient to enable the new Time Ball mechanism itself to be installed in the Guildhall Tower over the period Monday 9th November – Wednesday 11th November 2020. (note Key Date within contract terms). Keywords: roofing, principal contractor, regeneration, listed buildings, stone reconstruction, grant funding
