Evaluation of the Sport Ireland Active Cities fund

The Sport Ireland Active Cities project is funded by Sport Ireland through the Dormant Accounts Fund (DAF). The DAF was established by legislation and enables unclaimed funds from accounts in credit institutions in Ireland to be used towards projects for the development of disadvantaged areas. In 2020, the Sport Ireland Active Cities fund will invest €800,000 in sport and physical activity initiatives in Ireland’s eight city based Local Sports Partnerships; Dublin City Sport and Wellbeing Partnership, Fingal Sports Partnership, South Dublin Sports Partnership, Dun Laoghaire Rathdown Sports Partnership, Waterford Sports Partnership, Cork Sports Partnership, Limerick Sports Partnership and Galway Sports Partnership. Sport Ireland now wishes to commission a process and outcome evaluation of the Sport Ireland Active Cities fund 2020. The purpose of this evaluation is to understand to what extent funded bodies who have rolled out the programme, have achieved their intended outputs, outcomes and aims, and if so, what contributed to their success. It is expected that the report will present national level findings across all funded programmes, as well as highlighting the success or otherwise, of individual programmes. The evaluation will use programme guidelines and application forms provided by Sport Ireland as key reference documents, as well as other reporting documents submitted to Sport Ireland by funded bodies throughout the duration of the programme. The key findings of this evaluation will inform Sport Ireland’s investment in the Sport Ireland Active Cities fund going forward. The main deliverable of this project is an evaluation report of no more than 45 pages (excluding appendices). This report must address to what extent the objectives as stated below have been achieved by the programmes, by undertaking a process and outcome evaluation.
