Tender description

Newry, Mourne and Down District Council have secured EU funding for the PEACE IV Local Authority Action Plan – Beyond Tolerance. As a delivery partner, Newry, Mourne and Down Policing and Community Safety Partnership (PCSP) will be responsible for the delivery of some actions within the PEACE IV action plan which will promote peace and reconciliation in the local area. Newry, Mourne and Down PCSP is seeking to appoint a competent supplier to deliver a Preparatory Programme for Disengaged Communities and Local Leaders under the Shared Spaces and Services theme The main objective of the programme is the creation of a more cohesive society through an increased provision of shared spaces and services One of the visible aspects of the conflict is the high level of segregation within society. This is evidenced by residential segregation, peace walls, sectarian graffiti, public display of flags and emblems in a manner aimed to mark territory and intimidate. As well as increasing social division and tension, segregation also inhibits the potential for economic development and the efficient delivery of public services. This project will involve changes in both attitudes and behaviour with a corresponding reduction in segregation. Aim of Programme Engage individuals and communities not normally engaged with the Peace Process on issues of contested space. This programme will provide cross community contact opportunities to help build capacity within disengaged communities, leading to the creation of shared vision and removal of psychological barriers in local neighbourhoods Aim of Programme Engage individuals and communities not normally engaged with the Peace Process on issues of contested space.
