Cork City Council Library Service operates through 10 locations: The City Library on Grand Parade, home to the Reference Library, Local Studies Library, Rory Gallagher Music Library, Adult Lending Library and Children’s and Teens’ Library; 9 local libraries: Ballincollig, Bishopstown, Blackpool, Blarney, Douglas, Mayfield, Glanmire, Hollyhill and Tory Top; Douglas Library is in temporary premises with limited opening hours following a fire on August 31, 2019.Membership is free and open to all, with no minimum joining age. Members may borrow up to 12 items at any one time from a huge range of books, CDs, DVDs. At its peak in 2019 patrons were borrowing 65,000 physical items plus 4,500 downloads per month, almost 70,000 items in total. In total people borrowed 755,385 physical items and downloads. Between 32,000 and 35,000 people are members in any given year;We provide a well-developed and well-regarded Reference and Local Studies service, including our comprehensive www.corkpastand present.ie website which documents and celebrates Cork’s rich history, and an extensive Music Library.o An estimated additional 22,000 people use the libraries’ services, but are not members.We provide online access to our catalogue in our libraries or through our websites, and public access computers – with free internet access and Wi-Fi – and printing / copying facilities in libraries.o The Libraries’ two main websites on average attract 300,000 or so visitors each year, with a total of 845,500 pages viewed.We provide a service to housebound persons, bringing books and audio materials to patrons’ homes.
