RFT re Mining of Existing Datasets Related to Sport and Physical Activity Participation: Sport Ireland recognises that, in recent years, there has been a large body of research commissioned by different State agencies in Ireland to understand the lives and behaviours of adults and children, including behaviours around sport and physical activity. These research efforts have resulted, inter alia, in the creation of some large publicly available data sets mainly housed in Irish Social Science Data Archive. The primary objective of this project is to utilize data and information from these datasets, individuals and collectively examined, to understand better issues around participation (and non-participation) in sport and physical activity particularly among groups that are less likely to take part – individuals with a disability, those from socio-economic disadvantaged backgrounds, older people, etc. Tenderers will utilise the datasets to gain a better understanding of knowledge gaps, formulate an updated evidence base and present the acquired insights and knowledge in a way to assist policy making actions and development at a national and local level. Tenderers will need to identify the areas they are planning to address within the targeted settings e.g., age, gender, disability, location, behaviours, etc., which datasets will be utilised and what methods they propose to accomplish their action plan.
