WP1825: Remedial and strategic work relating to government domain names

Why the Work is Being Done Government domain names are a key component of the infrastructure underpinning the GOV.UK ecosystem of websites, email addresses and other digital services. The ecosystem includes over 3000 government bodies that provide 775 GOV.UK services that generate over 1 billion transactions annually. This work will support the secure and stable operation of most government digital services. Problem to Be Solved To improve the oversight of government domain names, and to help existing owners of government domain names better understand how to manage them. Who Are the Users As the owner or potential owner of a government domain name, I need to manage my domain properly so my: - digital presence remains available - organisation runs effectively - organisation is trusted online by other government organisations, commercial organisations and citizens Early Market Engagement N/A Work Already Done There has been a discovery process into the areas to be addressed by this effort and a number of early activities have already been initiated. Existing Team The supplier will be working with the Domain Management team at GDS. This team includes subject matter experts. The supplier will report to a Delivery Manager appointed by GDS. Must have delivered tender documentation for the procurement of critical ICT infrastructure. Must have delivered service specifications for critical ICT infrastructure. Must have experience with design and delivery of strategic infrastructure migrations, including surrounding risk management and business transformations. Must have developed and analysed commericial models for the operation of services. Must have experience of operating in a hybrid of Agile, waterfall and other project delivery methodologies. Nice to Haves Delivering technical engagements to suggest targeted and specific technical and security improvements. Experience with DNS Registry and Registrar Operations Experience of DNS at a technical level, its marketplace, global structure and security landscape Experience developing and operating tools with Salesforce Experience of Public sector IT strategy Experience of Public sector commercial strategy and procurement Knowledge of programming languages GO, Unix shell programming and Perl Experience in delivering services in accordance with the Technology Code of Practice.
