Tender description
STREAM is marine and environmental monitoring project funded from the European Union’s European Regional Development Fund through the Ireland Wales Cooperation programme. The project combines partners from Waterford Institute of Technology, Cork Institute of Technology and Swansea University focusing on the development and deployment of next generation sensing and monitoring systems for marine climate change impact assessment. Following an initial specification phase and consultation with stakeholders the project partners have identified two initial trial sites in Co. Wexford in the South East of Ireland. Both sites are shallow water, marine that support an active aquaculture industry. The initial deployment phase requires the deployment of sensors by Waterford Institute of Technology, Cork Institute of Technology and Swansea University that will be used by the project to benchmark future STREAM developed sensors. In phase two a second deployment will be established to test the STREAM communications platform, finally in phase three the STREAM developed sensors will be deployed with the STREAM communications platform and portal. All data generated by the sensors will be disseminated online to interregional stakeholders and coastal communities via the STREAM monitoring portal. The first two deployment phases will require the procurement of high specification sensors that are capable of operating continuously over a 90 day period between routine maintenance intervals. The focus for the first deployment phase is hypoxia and eutrophication within the integrated coastal zone. Thus the focus is on Nitrates, Oxygen and Carbon. We believe that two deployments will adequately serve our immediate requirements, we are also seeking to procure a third system that will be used as a mobile monitoring system and will later be installed at Rosslare Strand.
