Summary of the work DBS are looking for a knowledgeable and experienced engineer with the ability to work independently in implementing and configuring the Selenium tool Expected Contract Length 40 days Latest start date Monday 27 January 2020 Budget Range Not to be provided Why the Work is Being Done The DBS organisation is looking to improve current manual testing of software changes within the Chief Information Officer's programme of work. With the introduction of a MOD Cloud based replacement HR system, the test toll we wish to use is Selenium. Problem to Be Solved Manual testing is time consuming, and vulnerable to human error going in to the live system. In addition our Human Resources system will be moving to a cloud based Software as a Service. Who Are the Users As a user I need to have confidence in the performance and quality of the system, so that I can update my records and submit claims without incurring faults in the system. Early Market Engagement None Work Already Done Discovery phase has commenced and funding secured. Initial investigation on the Selenium tool has been undertaken, but no in-house experience available in respect of configuration and implementation of the tool. Existing Team The supplier will be working with technical staff, software testers and Future HR System project team. However, candidates should note that there is currently no Test Engineer lead within the team. The winning candidate will therefore be expected to be sufficiently skilled and experienced to work independently. Current Phase Discovery Skills & Experience • Minimum of 3 years in experience and work independently: • in Selenium software installation and configuration • User Interface Test automation (JavaScript Based) • General Development skills • REST API testing (Manual/Automated) • Exploratory Testing • Knowledge of modern test patterns Nice to Haves • Experience of working with Oracle Platform as a Service • Volumetric software tools Work Location The work will be based at the MOD DBS site in Bristol, Abbey Wood with possible travel to Manchester Cheadle Hulme or Liverpool Working Arrangments The engineer will be expected to work a 5 day week, along side Project staff. There is however room for some flexibility on the working pattern. Can the Authority please confirm the IR35 status of this requirement IR35 is not applicable in accordance with HMRC guidance. 2. Will a T&S budget be provided for the possible travel required If travel is required to sites other than the base site T&S in line with MOD policy will be available 3. The closing date for applications is 23rd January. The latest start date given is 27th January. This is not enough time for the second stage of the evaluation. Which of these dates is correct The evaluation of the bidders' submission will be undertaken in conjunction with the telephone interview due to the short timescale of the project. 4. Is this role going to be inside IR35 or Outside. IR35 not applicable in accordance with HMRC guidance 5.
