Compilation of forest harvest and forecast statistics for Ireland.

Tender description

The Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine (DAFM) prepares and disseminates information and statistics on forestry in support of Ireland’s national and international reporting requirements. DAFM report and fund a number of publications which include: • The Joint Forest Sector Questionnaire (JFSQ); • COFORD Connects: Woodflow 2019 and forest-based biomass energy use on the island of Ireland; • COFORD Connects: An overview of the roundwood harvest and forest products markets in the UNECE region; • UNECE Forestry and Timber Market Report for Ireland 2020. The JFSQ and the wood flow series collect and compile a range of data on removals, production and the trade of wood and wood products. The JFSQ is an initiative of the International Tropical Timber Organization (ITTO), the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE), the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) and Eurostat to collect statistics on the world timber situation. DAFM in conjunction with the COFORD Council are currently in the process of updating the All-Ireland Roundwood Production Forecast 2016-2035 out to 2040. This process will require analysis of roundwood figures and updating wood supply demand figures estimated for 2025. In Ireland statistics are collected annually and the collection of data includes close liaison with the national Central Statistics Office, forestry stakeholders and the Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland (SEAI). The contract service provider may also be requested to attend statistical meetings and present at various fora on behalf or with DAFM, both within Ireland and internationally.
