Founded in 1928, Sligo rovers F.C. is a community based football club with a long and proud history. Sligo Rovers ownership structure reflects its base in the community; it is owned by a wide range of small shareholders under the format of a cooperative society. The rules of the co-op prevent any single person or entity owning or controlling a significant block of shares in the Club. It is a club owned by the people for the people. The cost of running the club is now of the order of €1.3m annually, of which employment costs of the team and management is the largest item. In recent years there has been considerable investment in the ground and it is now one of the best soccer venues in the country. All this has been achieved under the direction of a voluntary management committee and huge efforts made on fundraising to secure the income levels required to maintain and develop the club. Given the level at which the Club is now operating and the funding involved more attention has to be given to making the operation of the club sustainable, to address obvious vulnerabilities and to set out clear objectives and a development path to be followed over the next 10 years. This will ensure that the club maintains its relevance as an iconic part of life in Sligo and grow to meet the changing demands of modern day football. the Club are commissioned a Masterplan to address the development needs for a 10 year time period leading up to the Clubs centenary year in 2028. The Master plan will define its direction as a community owned club and include: 1. Identify, prioritise and set out a plan for development of physical grounds and facilities 2. Examine and investigate how the club can build its revenue base from all sources 3. Identify the best methods of growing and embedding the club at local level 4. Exploration of methods and strategies to deepen the community and social connections of Sligo Rovers Full details of the required services are in the attached brief.
