Tender description

The Royal Navy, part of the UK Ministry of Defence, intends to award a 2-year contract to CAE UK PLC (‘CAE’) for the provision of magnetic anomaly detection-XR sensors (‘MAD-XR Sensors’) and ancillaries, including training and support. It is considered that this contract can be awarded using the negotiated procedure without prior publication of a contract notice pursuant to regulation 32(2)(b)(ii) of the Public Contracts Regulations 2015 (Article 32(2)(b)(ii) of Directive 2014/24/EU) for technical reasons. This is because the Royal Navy intends to fit the MAD-XR Sensor to the Merlin Mk2 helicopter and the MAD-XR Sensor produced by CAE is the only MAD-XR sensor currently available which performs to a high enough technical standard to enable it to be fitted to an airframe, rather than towed behind it in the traditional manner. CAE has also obtained the required certification from the Military Aviation Authority that it is safe to be fitted to a military airframe.
