Over the next 5 years, the NHS long term plan expects to enable pharmacy employees to devote more time on patient focused tasks with the view this could support major changes to healthcare delivery. More than half of hospital readmissions are due to adverse drug events. By pharmacy staff having more involvement with discharge pathways, this should result in improved patient outcomes. Automating back office tasks such as dispensing and stock management with pharmacy robots and drug cabinets not only enables a shift in pharmacy staff attention to patient care but also delivers the following benefits: • increased speed to reduce patient waiting times; • improved Clinical workflow; • decreased dispensing error rate improving patient safety and reducing duplication of work; • capability to cope with increased prescription volumes; • inventory management to prevent stock wastage, accurate stock ordering and recall procedures. Requirement for pharmacy automation hardware, software and associated consumables. The framework will be for the benefit, and on behalf, of public sector bodies, details of such bodies can be accessed at: https://[https://www.sbs.nhs.uk/proc-framework-agreements-support. In addition, if provided for in the contract documents, NHS SBS may extend the scope and benefit of the framework agreement to private sector bodies, subject to the approval of NHS SBS. Whilst NHS SBS is not required by procurement legislation to do so, it has extended the principles of public procurement rules to provide its private sector customers with the best value and open and transparent procurement procedures.
