Tender description

Network Rail will be carrying out a design contest seeking innovative designs from the market in relation to the two business challenges: 1) Real-time platform crowding information — Network Rail’s Innovation Station Testbed Program seeks a digital solution to provide operational oversight of real-time passenger footfall on platforms 13 and 14 of Manchester Piccadilly station for a 10-week trial period. The system will need to alert station shifts managers of real-time crowding and indicate how close the platforms are to capacity, 2) Smart asset monitoring — Network Rail’s Innovation Station Testbed programme seeks a digital solution to manage planned general inspections of assets, monitor and analyse persistent issues and track progress to completion. The solution will be trialled for a 10-week period. Network Rail will be inviting applicants to participate in a design contest by submitting a design or plan which addresses one or both of the challenge statements. Following the completion of design contest, Network Rail will select design contest winners for each challenge, these winners will be invited to participate in a phase of negotiations with Network Rail which if successful may result in the award of a service contract, to take part in the Innovation Stations Testbed Programme.
