Community Biodiversity and Training Awareness Programme

Galway Rural Development is seeking to engage a qualified Consultant/Consultancy team to prepare, organise and recruit participants with the assistance of Galway Rural Development and deliver a suite of training modules, resources materials and workshops, provide follow up guidance and advice, host a special event to showcase each community’s biodiversity project and produce a final report. The programme will consist of three strands for different cohorts of the communities selected: • National School Students – will participate in numerous weekly sessions of active, inquiry based learning to raise their awareness of local heritage and biodiversity, and will be supported in designing and implementing a project to benefit their local biodiversity. (2 schools in Oranmore MD and 2 in Loughrea MD) • Transition Year Secondary School students – will participate in a minimum of three full days of active, inquiry-based learning to raise their awareness of local heritage and biodiversity, and will be supported in designing and implementing a project to benefit their local biodiversity. (2 schools in Oranmore MD and 2 in Loughrea MD) • Adult groups – including landowners and community leaders - will follow a multiple module training course on local heritage and biodiversity, and together will draw up a biodiversity plan for their community. To assist communities to implement the identified actions in their plans, several skills workshops will be provided. (3 groups in Oranmore MD and 3 in Loughrea MD) The overall aim of this initiative is to equip and enable these communities with the skills to develop an associated local biodiversity action project/plan and implement it through the use of a targeted local heritage and biodiversity training programme. Secondly, to foster a sense of stewardship among local communities for their local biodiversity and heritage through targeted resource packs, and opportunities to attend additional training sessions/courses.
