Tender description
Hoveton Broad sits within Natural England (NE) Blue Marshes National Nature Reserve (NNR) in the Norfork Broads. The site is one of twenty-seven ‘Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI)’ within the Broads and it is Britain’s biggest wetland due to 451 hectares in size. The site is also internationally recognised as Special Area of Conservation (SAC) for its habitat, flora and fauna. This project is part of the Bure LIFE Project (LIFE14 NAT/UK/000054) which is financially supported by LIFE, a financial instrument of the European Community. It is also supported by the National Lottery through the Heritage Lottery Fund. The Hoveton Wetlands Restoration project aims to deliver the restoration of Hoveton Great Broad and Hudson’s Bay. NE require a contractor to finish the mechanical movement of sediment from the bed of Hoveton Great Broad and Hudson’s Bay, and to achieve an average minimum depth of 1.1m. The sediment moved is now to be used to back fill the already existing areas created by the already ‘in place’ geo tubes. Two further geo tubes will need to be inserted and backfilled behind two existing tubes because they are currently sitting too low in the water. One further tube will also need some smaller geobags filled with sediment and placed on top where they are currently sitting too low in the water. The geo tubes will need finishing with a top layer of material (already purchased) and sewn on top. A small amount of this has been started but all three geo tubes will require attention and finishing. Works to start at the beginning of October 2019 and would need to be finished by 20th December 2019. **For site visits only please contact Deanna Auker on email, Deanna.Auker@naturalengland.org.uk **
