Tender description

The Nursing and Midwifery Council (the “NMC”) is a statutory body governed primarily by the Nursing and Midwifery Order 2001 (the “Order”). The NMC regulates nurses and midwives in England, Scotland, Northern Ireland and Wales. From January 2019 the NMC will also regulate the new nursing associate profession in England. The NMC is keen to create a Framework Agreement between a range of providers of lay advocacy and other professional regulators in the healthcare sector. This is a shared opportunity to provide reasonable adjustments to ensure people raising a concern or acting as a witness can participate fully and fairly in the fitness to practise process. The lay advocacy will provide support for members of the public, who have additional needs and are involved in a complaint about a registered health professional. Advocacy may be needed at the initial complaint stage, during the investigation or at the hearing stage. We work across the UK and Northern Ireland. The framework would be for a period of 3 years, please note the value given is only an estimate as the scope of the framework is not fully formed yet.
