Tender description

The mobile infrastructure infill project will bring 4G coverage to a number of areas of Wales that currently do not have a reliable and usable 4G mobile phone signal and where there are no current plans by commercial operators to provide a service but where there is demonstrable latent demand for a mobile data service. The areas for intervention will be based on a number of mobile action zones which are currently being identified. The purpose of this voluntary notice is to commence a market engagement exercise to explore the range of possible solutions/strategies prior to embarking on a competitive bid process to appoint contractor/s to deliver the project. Public sector investment of circa 10 000 000 GBP to 20 000 000 GBP may be available from the Welsh Government. To provide the infrastructure to achieve a usable and reliable 4G mobile coverage in mobile action zones focused on areas of Wales that do not benefit from a usable and reliable mobile service so that residents, businesses and visitors can realise the benefits of mobile connectivity. The Welsh Government is in the process of defining a number of mobile action zones in Wales which the procurement will target. These are areas of Wales that currently do not have a reliable and usable 4G mobile phone signal and where there are no current plans by commercial operators to provide a service but where there is demonstrable latent demand for a mobile data service. The mobile action zones will be further defined through engagement with the mobile industry, local authorities and other interested stakeholders.
