Tender description

The Welsh Government intends to develop 2 new, pan-Wales, routes of Initial Teacher Education (ITE) from academic year 2019; a part-time Post Graduate Certificate of Education (PGCE) and an Employment Based Scheme (salaried PGCE). The Welsh Government intends to develop 2 new, pan-Wales, routes of Initial Teacher Education (ITE) from academic year 2019; a part-time Post Graduate Certificate of Education (PGCE) and an Employment Based Scheme (salaried PGCE). Welsh Government is therefore intending to procure a provider (or partnership of more than one provider) to develop and deliver both routes working with the established regional education consortia (“the Consortia”). Through the new part-time PGCE we aim to remove barriers of geographical accessibility to postgraduate study. The part-time route into teaching, and the employment based scheme, will be designed to provide opportunities to widen participation for those groups currently underrepresented in Wales’ teaching workforce, and enrich the profession by increasing diversity and allowing those with work-related experience from other fields and greater life-experience in general, to enter teaching. Both new routes will be both flexible and agile, involving effective professional support and development. They will both meet the high-quality requirements of the new accreditation criteria for teacher education that have been established following the recommendations of Professor John Furlong’s report Teaching tomorrow’s teachers.
