Tender description

IT Tralee is seeking to purchase a Gel Imaging System. This requirement is for a DNA/RNA, protein and chemiluminescence automated gel imaging system for reliable characterization and identification of valuable biomolecules. The system must be provided with a sensitive CCD camera (at least 6 megapixel true native resolution). Its CCD sensor should be cooled to detect weak signals and provide optimum sensitivity. Low read noise and dark current values along with a high linear dynamic range are expected to provide an efficient quantitative analysis. Fixed lens should have fast aperture and a motorized camera zoom system is desirable to obtain optimized optical resolution without compromising sensitivity. This automated gel imaging system must have different transilluminators/illumination sources including, at least, chemiluminescence, epi fluorescence and UV-visible imaging options. Because this equipment will be used by multiple users, any technology that efficiently recognizes and adjusts imagining and software parameters from different transilluminators/illumination sources is required. The gel imaging system must be provided with a user-friendly hardware to control it easily on site. A MAC or PC-compatible analysis software that allows unlimited users and unlimited free upgrades is desirable. This analysis software should have different analysis features such as quantitative acquisition of signals from gels and blots or a tool for total protein normalisation of western blot results would be desirable. Moreover, users for this system should be able to export images in several file formats suitable for analysis and publication purposes.
