Tender description

Newport City Council invites tenders from experienced catering providers for the provision of a school meals catering service to 43 primary schools, 9 high schools, 2 special schools and 1 pupil referral unit within its geographical boundaries. The current contract for this provision expires on 31.7.2020 and the Council invites tenders from experienced providers to deliver the new contract from 1.8.2020. The contract will be for a period of 10 years and at the end of the 10th year the Council may, upon contract review, extend the contract period up to 5 years on an annual basis or a period as agreed by both parties. It is considered that TUPE will apply. Newport City Council wishes to contract with an experienced provider to deliver a school meals catering service to help it meet its corporate plan and well-being objectives to enable people to be healthy, independent and resilient which contributes to Welsh Government’s well-being goal for a healthier Wales. The successful contractor will deliver the service as a minimum in accordance with the Healthy Eating in Schools Wales Regulations 2013. They will also engage with stakeholders to ensure continuous improvement throughout the contract period that will work towards a significant reduction of sugar and unhealthy fat consumption, increase the availability of plant based food options and increase the uptake of school meals.
