The provision of Bachelor of Science in Police Leadership and Governance

The provision of the Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) in Police Leadership & Governance aligns itself to the Garda Síochána strategy in renewing the present, in creating the future and instilling and ethical and professional police force. The B.Sc. course will cater for 70 members of An Garda Síochána, civilian and uniform, at middle to senior management level, who will undergo this three year degree Programme designed to focus on strategic management practices within An Garda Síochána. It is envisaged that an extra 10 places will be made available to applicants from different State investigative services and the Justice family. The B.Sc. in Police Leadership & Governance will be a level 8 qualification on the Irish National Framework Qualification (NFQ) with the possibility of progressing via the Pathways model to a level 9 qualification in the future. The first two academic years of the B.Sc. in Police Leadership & Governance will consist of a block release Programme every month being facilitated at the Garda College (Due to capacity issues at the Garda College Tenderers should indicate their ability to provide an alternative training venue with suitable facilities if so required) with Year 3 of the Programme to include a Dissertation or group project.
