Community Equipment Services provide essential care for people that require equipment and mobility aids to stay independent and in their own home for as long as possible. The Health Service and Local Authority Circular HSC 2001/008 LAC (2001) 13 – Community Equipment Services, published in April 2001, set out a requirement for an integrated local equipment service to be established. As a result of the national requirement to integrate equipment services into a single operation/ service (Integrated Community Equipment Service – ICES) this model/approach was adopted within the Borough of Halton. The Halton Integrated Community Equipment Service (HICES), has been in operation for over 10 years and has always been provided by NHS organisations within the Borough. We want to take this opportunity to review the market to explore if there are others providers who are in a position to offer this service in the Borough, to ensure that service provision is fit for purpose to meet current and future demands and which also offers value for money.
