Provision of Rail Freight Data

The ONS is looking to identify and engage with industry partners to help bring third party data and/or expertise to access better and more relevant data sources. This will help improve the quality and usefulness of official statistics about our population, society and economy that decision makers, businesses and citizens so urgently need. ONS is seeking to develop partnerships with organisations that hold information about rail freight between the UK and Europe via the Eurotunnel. ONS are interested in the following data: o Rail freight tonnage, loaded directly onto trains, not recorded via Lorry/HGV o Revenue from carrying rail freight through the Eurotunnel o Average freight rate per tonne The types of organisations that should consider contacting us include: o Rail freight carriers licensed to freight goods through the Eurotunnel o Organisations that compile data, based on rail freight carriers licensed to freight goods through the Eurotunnel Types of support could include: o Permission to responsibly scrape data from websites, or to use public APIs o Provision of private APIs or other arrangements for retrieving data o Supply of bulk data extracts o Supply of relevant metadata and/or documentation on how data enters the system and how it is processed. o Provision of aggregated data as defined by ONS What can a partnership with ONS offer?
