Our vision is to have a Smoke Free Bristol where no one is harmed by tobacco use. Our ambition for this contract: The ambition of this contract is to reduce the lifelong harms from tobacco use on new born babies and among individuals and within the communities who are currently experiencing greater harm. We are seeking a provider partner who will bring expertise, innovation, local knowledge and a flexible can do attitude to delivering the vision, ambition and outcomes described in this specification. Why this is important for Bristol: In spite of significant progress, smoking remains the single biggest cause of premature death in Bristol, the largest lifestyle driver of inequalities in health and the leading modifiable risk factor for poor pregnancy outcomes. Whilst overall prevalence has declined, there are wide variations in local smoking prevalence and proportion of households with a smoker between wards across the city. Both figures are reported at above 40 % in some wards, whilst the lowest prevalence of households with a smoker is just 3 %. Smoking is increasingly concentrated among people living in more deprived areas and is a major contributor to the city’s health inequalities. 10 % of women who are pregnant smoke. The focus of this contract: Within the context of a wider Tobacco Control Strategy (see below) this service will focus on providing specialist evidence based support, treatment and advice for: — pregnant women, their partners and family members, — patients discharged from hospital and those identified through health checks who have long term conditions.
