Tender description

The University wishes to appoint a contractor or contractors to supply an X-ray cabinet irradiator capable of delivering X-ray photons of at least 350 kVp. System flexibility in delivering a wide range of dose rates, accurately quantifiable total dose, and an ability to accommodate materials with a range of geometries and dimensions is an essential requirement, to allow research into the behaviour of materials including polymers, biomedical materials, chemical materials and electronics components and systems when exposed to ionising radiation. Ideally, the machine should be able to accommodate both vertical and horizontal irradiation and have its electron current (zero to maximum) and energy variable under external control. The University wishes to appoint a contractor or contractors to supply an X-ray cabinet irradiator. The equipment will be housed in the Dalton Cumbrian Facility, the University’s research base at the Westlakes Science Park in Cumbria. The experimental equipment at the Dalton Cumbrian Facility forms part of the Henry Royce Institute, the UK’s national centre for advanced materials research and innovation.
