Cytoreductive surgery services on behalf of NHS England — Specialised Commissioning Peritoneal carcinomatosis is an advanced form of cancer found in the peritoneal cavity. This type of cancer occurs when cancers spread from their origin in, for example, the appendix, bowel, rectum or ovaries. It is associated with short survival and poor quality of life, and may lead to bowel obstruction, accumulation of fluid in the peritoneal cavity and pain. Cytoreductive surgery plus hyperthermic intraperitoneal chemotherapy aims to provide curative treatment through complete removal of the tumour. NHS Arden and Greater East Midlands Commissioning Support Unit (AGCSU), on behalf of NHS England — Specialised Commissioning is carrying out a market engagement exercise for the provision of Cytoreductive surgery services and hyperthermic intraperitoneal chemotherapy for patients with peritoneal carcinomatosis secondary to colorectal cancer across England. The service is covered by the service specification A08/S/f 2013/14 NHS. Standard contract: For colorectal: cytoreductive surgery (Adult and Clinical Commissioning Policy: Cytoreduction surgery for patients with peritoneal carcinomatosis, April 2013, NHSCB/A08/P/a c. NHS England intends to commission the services by splitting the requirement into 4 lots. NHS England is proposing that these lots will be split as follows: Lot 1: North East and Yorkshire and North West; Lot 2: South East and South West; Lot 3: Midlands and East of England; Lot 4: London. This service is expected to commence on the 1.10.2020. NHS England is in the process of agreeing the budget for this service and intends to get feedback from potential providers in the market engagement questionnaire published with this PIN. NHS England (Specialised Commissioning) aims to offer a contract opportunity for a period of 3 years with the option to extend for a further year. (i.e. 3 + 1), subject to market feedback and internal approval. The aim of the market engagement exercise is to inform providers on the potential opportunity and to assist the commissioner in deciding on the most appropriate strategy for the future procurement.
