Tender description

Iarnród Éireann (IÉ) have a requirement to meet rapidly growing passenger demand by way of increasing the rolling stock available to it for revenue service. IÉ entered into a framework agreement in 2004 for the supply of Intercity Railcar DMU sets with Mitsui and Co. Ltd following a competitive tender process advertised in the Official Journal of the European Union. The framework agreement resulted in 234 carriages being manufactured and supplied in 63 fixed formation 3 or 6 car sets. IÉ intend to award a contract without a call for competition directly to the original main contractor Mitsui and Co. Ltd for the provision of a quantity of 41 additional intermediate 'B' type cars.
