Dublin City Council (DCC) announces its intention to extend Phase 2 of the SBIR Gully Monitoring Challenge in partnership with Enterprise Ireland. Phase 2B will introduce a bridging fund of 30 000 EUR inc.VAT(per company) for two companies that have participated in Phase 2 of the challenge. Over the next 18 months the funding will provide the companies with the 'support for initial tooling and interface development' which will be instrumental for the sustainability and future scalability of the solutions and include a 12 month deployment of the product. Both companies have worked closely with DCC's Surface Water Monitoring Department to really identify and address the challenges of flood monitoring across Dublin City. They’ve brought their ideas from feasibility, to prototyping and have continued trialling and testing to verify and validate the data being collected. They’ve engaged with DCC to co-design their solutions, gain feedback and test the robustness of their devices. The bridging fund will give the companies a 'monetary runway' to make the necessary improvements suggested by DCC's Surface Water team give the company the opportunity to grow. And the response from DCC’s Surface Water Management team is extremely positive as they continue to provide feedback to ensure the solutions are designed to last. The success of these solutions, have huge potential to impact on the day to day operations of the team. It will provide them with accurate data, real time alerts and optimise the deployment of resources where they’re needed most. Phase 2B is estimated to last from October 2019-March 2021.
