LJMU are exploring the market for foreign language training. The provision of self-directed online language learning packages is required to support 2 LJMU strategic objectives: — provide advanced-level English language support for students whose first language is not English, — provide the opportunity for staff liaising with our overseas partners and students who will travel abroad on exchange visits to learn a new language to conversational level. In addition, foreign language learning has been shown to contribute to confidence-building and well-being: packages should therefore be available to all LJMU staff and students, not just those with specific language development needs. It must have more functionality than the free apps available, for example Babbel and Duolingo, enabling users to work through a full course and track their progress.
