Provision of Field Monument Advisor/Community Archaeology Services

Sligo County Council in partnership with The Heritage Council invites responses to this brief which seeks to provide Field Monument Advisor/Community Archaeology Services for Sligo in 2019. The project is funded by The Heritage Council in partnership with Sligo County Council. The provision of Field Monuments Advisory/Community Archaeology Services will involve ongoing liaison with and support for monument owners and communities in Sligo and to inform the development of community initiatives such as heritage trials and the management and conservation of archaeological monuments in public ownership by local communities. In addition, there may be a requirement, from time to time, to monitor and report on the progress of any works or management action affecting archaeological sites and monuments in Sligo, to make urgent ad hoc inspections of sites and monuments and to represent the Heritage Office at a range of professional and other forums. In 2019, the Field Monument Advisor/Community Archaeology Service will focus on the following: Promoting awareness, knowledge and understanding of the Sligo archaeological resource among individuals and community groups in the county Promoting heritage best practice in relation to researching and undertaking works relating to archaeological monuments Develop and implement a strategic approach to community archaeology in County Sligo, through working with key stakeholders on specific themes/actions. Facilitation/supervision/direction of measures to safeguard/conserve archaeological monuments in cases where licensing is required to do so. To be undertaken in consultation with the National Monuments Service, of the Department of Culture, Heritage and the Gaeltacht.
