Tender description

The Environmental Protection Agency is at the front line of environmental protection and policing. We ensure that Ireland's environment is protected, and we monitor changes in environmental trends to detect early warning signs of neglect or deterioration. Protecting our environment is a huge responsibility, and we work with a number of organisations that carry out specific environmental functions. As of August 2014, we are also responsible for ensuring that the people of Ireland are protected from the harmful effects of radiation. The EPA is an independent public body established under the Environmental Protection Agency Act, 1992. The other main instruments from which we derive our mandate are the Waste Management Act, 1996, and the Protection of the Environment Act, 2003 and Radiological Protection (Miscellaneous Provisions) Act 2014. Total Phosphorus analyser Objectives: It is intended that the selected instrument should achieve the following objectives: 1) Replacement of current Hach Ganimede Total Phosphorus (TP) analyser 2) Instrument should have the capability of routinely measuring low concentrations (≤ 10 µg/l P) of TP in water samples in an automated system 3) Future proof the Agency’s needs in this area 4) Fit within the existing laboratory space, utilities and usage patterns. As Is: Phosphorus is the key parameter in monitoring environmental water quality. A TP analysis method for water samples is critical to the work of the EPA water monitoring laboratories. Currently a number of Hach Ganimede TP analysers are used across 3 of the 4 EPA laboratories. These instruments facilitate the operation of a fully automated method for analysis of TP. Approximately 3500 water samples are analysed for TP annually across the 3 laboratories. The instrument in Kilkenny is more than 7 years old and it has been decided to seek a replacement for this instrument in 2019.
