Tender description
The Glasgow Subway is currently undergoing an extensive modernisation programme, which includes stations upgrade, new rolling stock and automatically controlled protection and operation system to give the best service to our customer. We are looking for a manufacturer/supplier to bring our DC traction power system to the modern standard as while as supporting our ultimate Unattended Train Operation (UTO) goal. Our Subway has 15 stations and a maintenance depot currently powered by 5 substations. One is located within the depot and four are located at other remote sites. Our rolling stock is operating on 600VDC 3rd rail, which the power rectified down from 11 kV or 6,6 kV HV supply vary from substations. Breakers for the DC side of the system are currently Whipp and Bourne MM74. Assess SPT’s current DC traction power systems against what would be a modern equivalent with regards safe operation, highlighting any technical differences and deficiencies against modern standards and/or best practice. Where any deficiencies are highlighted and using knowledge and experience of similar systems, propose options open to SPT to bring its DC traction power equipment in-line with those identified modern standards and/or best practice. Using your knowledge and experience of DC Traction Power systems operating in a metro environment or similar. Provide details/commentary on any standard safety requirements placed upon a UTO system operator in regards to the principle of operation of traction power systems, including consideration of remote traction power isolation in a safety-critical environment. In relation to SPT’s current Traction power equipment and with regards cost, feasibility and timescales provide options open to SPT to bring its equipment in-line with best practice for a UTO system. Options open to SPT may be but not limited to the following. The modification/replace/upgrade of existing circuit breakers. Replacement of switchboard and substations control.
