Gas supply mains construction work

Tender description

Southern Gas Networks PLC (SGN) sought experienced and competent gas engineering contractors to undertake the management and construction of new and replacement gas pipework installation, primarily above ground, working at heights, along with some associated below ground mains and service laying. The contractors will undertake the role of CDM principal contractor for the works. The contractor will be required to provide or supply all labour, resources, plant and equipment to undertake both new and replacement natural gas pipework installations, up to and including 2 bar operating pressure, including but not limited to: — the works will be undertaken predominately on domestic flatted properties including high rise flats owned by local authorities, housing associations, private landlords or individual owners. The agreement will also cover non-domestic properties, — gas mains installation, below ground, in the diameter range 63 mm to 180 mm, including all excavation and permanent reinstatement of public and private ground, including footpaths and roads, — supply, maintenance and removal of adequate signing, lighting and guarding of excavations in public and private ground, — traffic management, including the provision of temporary traffic control, — gas riser pipework installation above ground, with pricing for the 4 material types: —— gas riser installations in screwed steel, up to and including 2” diameter, —— gas riser installations in welded steel, up to and including 6” diameter, —— gas riser installations in PE, up to and including 63 mm diameter, —— gas riser installations in stainless steel (option for potential introduction in the agreement at a later date). — provision of scaffolding and temporary access systems, including mast climbers, — gas meter installation and re-installations, predominately domestic sized (U6/E6) gas meters and up to small non-domestic (U16) sized gas meters, — valve survey works and valve remediation works (both above and below ground valves), — ancillary services, such as reinstatement landscaping of disturbed grass, gardens or verges, Satellite Dish removals and temporary re-positioning, remedial works inside properties repairing and making good damaged walls, floors, etc., — management and coordination of the works, including undertaking the roles and responsibilities of CDM principal contractor. Coordinating the works and safety of specialist sub-contractors such as scaffolders, diamond drillers, etc., — supply of sufficient resources to maintain and fulfill the agreed programme for planned works and provide sufficient resources to provide an ‘on-demand’ service for responding to emergency situations where the client has had to disconnect a gas riser installation (usually on safety grounds) and requires a replacement installation undertaken in a short timescale (unplanned works), — liaise with local authorities, housing associations, landlords and property owners to plan and coordinate the works in a professional manner and deliver a high standard of customer experience on behalf of the client.
