UCC - RFT FOR THE SUPPLY OF GPS/GMS SEAL TAGS

Tender description

Tenders are sought for GPS/GMS Seal Tags which will be used for tracking seals in the Irish Sea and are required as part of the Sea Monitor Project. Tags must be waterproof to >500m depth and have minimum battery life of six (6) months at a GPS fix interval of 5-10 minutes. Tags should be small and streamlined enough to be affixed to juvenile harbour seals by gluing to the fur just behind their head. Tags must utilise fast acquisition (milliseconds) technology which offers the possibility of recording locations at short surface intervals. Tags must incorporate GSM technology to relay information ashore so the animals do not need to be recaptured for the data to be retrieved as recapture of animals is not possible. Tags must include precision wet/dry, pressure (0-600m) and temperature (-5 to +40 degrees Celsius) sensors to form detailed individual dive (max depth, shape, time at depth, etc) and haul-out records along with temperature profiles and synoptic summary records. The supplier must be able provide the positional and dive data in Access database format and provide technical support.
