At Network Rail, we currently have several integration technologies that enable us to sufficiently connect our systems, processes and services. However, business demands are shifting, and applications are now running in hybrid environments. Consumers also need information in real time. Network Rail requires an agile and scalable platform to integrate new digital capabilities and leverage existing NR applications and data services. This shall deliver business critical real-time enterprise data to internal and external consumers in an efficient and flexible way through multiple channels. Our aim, through the Open Integration project, is to rationalise and standardise integration technologies used in Network Rail thereby eliminating the pain points and bad practices. It will enable provisioning an improved Target Operating Model, governance and technology services to create new business capabilities and support/leverage the existing ones in an efficient and flexible way. This should enable teams to work together to design, build, deploy, operate, monitor and change integration software services that connect business applications, data sources and other software platforms – wherever they may be hosted.
