System for recording attendance

The University of the West of England intends to pilot a student attendance recording system for 3 months, following successful completion of the pilot the University may commence a full roll out across all campuses. Following a previously unsuccessful OJEU process and further market engagement the University has found only one supplier that fulfils all the requirements. UWE is committed to supporting students and recognises that engagement and attendance within teaching and learning is a key element in successful student retention, progression, achievement and employability. Currently pockets of attendance recording takes place across the University in silos within each of the faculties. These processes are manual and time consuming. Students on certain programmes are required to have their attendance recorded to comply with UKVR (visa) or minimal number of placement hours. The implementation of attendance recording provides the opportunity to more easily capture robust attendance data across a number of locations including teaching rooms, lecture rooms and field trips. The system must be a modern future proof system that will allow students to record their attendance within a location or event; automated as far as possible and will work for both timetabled and non-timetabled sessions; integrate with other UWE systems such as our in-house student records database, timetabling system and learner analytics system; and be capable of analysing data.
