The University of Bristol is seeking to build upon its existing activity in online education through the development and delivery of new postgraduate courses and programmes. The courses offered will be flexible and accessible, catering both for learners who might want to take a single short course as continued professional development to enhance their employability, and those who are seeking a full postgraduate certificate, diploma or degree. It is expected that, in the first instance, the courses and programmes will be in the areas of public health, population health and/or epidemiology and in data science, drawing upon the University’s significant research expertise and reputation in these areas. It is anticipated that the first courses will be launched during the 2020/21 academic year, with full degree programmes following in 2021/22. Following this pilot phase, the University will then seek to expand its portfolio of online postgraduate courses and programmes in other, targeted disciplines with the ultimate ambition of attracting at least one thousand full-time equivalent online learners. It is envisaged that the development of the courses and programmes will require the out-sourcing of some all of the following work packages: project management, market research, curriculum and assessment design, and interactive asset development. The University will also seek commercial partners to support the delivery of the courses through: marketing, recruitment and admissions, platform provision and systems integration, online mentoring, facilitation and academic support for learners, delivery of assessment, and evaluation and continuous improvement. A decision on a business case for the project is expected to be taken in October 2019. Potential providers should register on the University's tendering portal at https://tenders.bris.ac.uk and can request further information through the online tendering portal.
