HS2 have recognised the current market conditions are challenging and the increasing concern regarding risk transfer and have therefore revised our position to provide a better balance and overall outcome. The industry day will provide an opportunity to re-engage with the market and outline our revised strategy which we believe will attract a larger number of bidders, reduce risk and thereby produce a more competitive process. The Track scope of the works involves the design, build, installation and testing and commissioning of the track for the entirety of the route for HS2 Phase 1 and Phase 2a. The scope also includes the design, design integration and coordination with other disciplines, installation of hydraulically bonded layer or concrete bearing layer, installation of slab track (precast, in-situ and resilient), installation of ballasted track, installation of rail and switches and crossings as well as associated points operating and detection, points heating equipment, cable containment, drainage, construction of temporary railheads, permanent infrastructure maintenance depot and infrastructure maintenance bases.
