The Council wish to commission an independent advice service for residents that covers a range of topics, with a focus on housing/homelessness issues and includes, but not be limited to, welfare benefits, debt and employment issues, immigration, equalities and consumer rights. The Council recognises that advice services play a crucial role in promoting individual rights and access to social justice, which in turn tackles social exclusion and discrimination. They also build social cohesion, active citizenship and engagement in the wider community, particularly those who are vulnerable such as older people, disabled people and newly arrived communities. The Service will provide free, independent, impartial advice and support within a culture of equality and diversity. The provision of a local, community focused advice service will ensure residents are able to access the advice and support they need at the right place and the right time. The advice will be efficient and effective in preventing and reducing the problems faced by residents. The Council provides targeted advice and assistance to residents and this Service will complement and work in partnership with Croydon Council and other community support services to ensure positive outcomes for residents.
