Swansea University School of Medicine purchased MRI and CT scanners with 7-year service cover from Siemens Healthcare in 2012, and the University now wish to renew this service provision with the OEM of this specialist equipment. Both the MRI and the CT scanner are committed for use within clinical research trials by the school of medicine imaging suite, so the University has a legal obligation for that equipment to be comprehensively maintained. Without the specialist (and commercially proprietary) knowledge of the system provided by the OEM (that can only be gleaned through original manufacture of the equipment) there is significant risk of this key equipment failing beyond repair and subsequent non-delivery of critical publically funded multi-million pound research programs.
