Tender description
RfLi Crossrail intends to operate 24 passenger trains per hour. With maintenance possession time when access will be permitted for operations/maintenance activities will be limited to approximately 4 hours per-night and limited access at weekends up to 2 x 52-hour possession periods per annum. The design of the Crossrail infrastructure requires the use of specific technology to complete asset inspections and maintain the infrastructure to the required availability and reliability standards. Crossrail has determined the inspection equipment necessary to ensure the ability to operate a safe, reliable service on the TfL Elizabeth line. RfLI/Crossrail are procuring several pieces of plant to support the infrastructure maintenance activities of the Crossrail Central Operating Section, one being the switch and crossing monitoring system. Lot 8 switch and crossing monitoring system: to ensure the ability to operate a safe, reliable service on the TfL Elizabeth line, RfLi/Crossrail is procuring several pieces of yellow plant to support the infrastructure maintenance activities of the Crossrail central operating section, one being the switch and crossing monitoring system. The equipment is likely to consist of a self-propelled unit with laser profiling equipment capable of measuring profiles and clearances along the length of the assets. The technical requirements schedule for the switch and crossing monitoring system are written in terms of performance and expected output, rather than mandating a specific solution, to allow maximum flexibility to the bidders to provide ‘off the shelf’ solutions and minimise product development wherever possible for this procurement. General requirements: 1) The equipment shall (for example): (i) operate self-propelled; (ii) manually transportable either fully assembled or disassembled; (iii) fit through escalators or lifts; (iv) delivered from an engineering train; (v) towable between sites. 2) Classed as a ‘Demountable Machine’ under Rail Industry Standards RIS-1530-PLT. Rail Industry Standard for Technical Requirements for On-Track Plant and Their Associated Equipment and Trolleys (https://www.rssb.co.uk/rgs/standards/RIS-1530-PLT%20Iss%206.pdf) 3) Battery powered, capable of at least 5 hours continuous operation; 4) Likely to consist of laser profiling equipment capable of measuring profiles and clearances along the length of the assets; 5) The equipment shall be able to measure: (i) track gauge between 1 425 mm and 1 485 mm to an accuracy of +/-1 mm; (ii) reporting track gauge variation over a 3 m base to an accuracy of +/-2 mm; (iii) measuring/calculating twist/cross level deviation over a 3 m base to an accuracy of +/-2 mm; (iv) measures switch tip squareness to a range of ≥12 mm (+/-6 mm) to an accuracy of +/-1 mm. 6) Reporting: (i) reporting all recorded parameters against defined standards; (ii) user interface/visualisation tool shall be capable of representing all recorded rail profiles; (iii) representing all rail profiles against the P8 wheel profile.
