Provision of a Computer Tomography scanning service for the purpose of evaluation of equipment for the determination of lean meat content in pig carcases

Tender description

AHDB is seeking information from possible suppliers of a Computer Tomography (CT) scanning service (to include the CT equipment and technicians to operate it and interpret the results) for the assessment of lean meat content of pig half-carcases at a commercial abattoir premises within the United Kingdom. AHDB is engaged in a programme of work with the aim to "stimulate the introduction of a new method of carcase classification." To address this the AHDB Pork Board established a working group to explore opportunities for new carcase assessment systems. The group has concluded that there are two new classification devices that offer the potential to provide a more complete assessment of yield from the carcase. We are now seeking to set up and run a trial to evaluate these devices, together with existing hand-held probes, for their ability to predict lean meat content (measured by CT) of pig carcases.
