Tender description

The UK Army has the following in-service support weapons: 1) General Purpose Machine Gun (GPMG); 2) Heavy Machine Gun (HMG); 3) Grenade Machine Gun (GMG). These 3 weapons have been in service for over 10 years with no significant upgrade to the sighting systems to utilise current technologies. The Support Weapons Enhanced Sighting Systems (SWESS) project will address the upgrade of the sighting systems by running an restricted competition under DSPCR 2011 to procure capabilities such as the following: 1) Day sight; 2) Thermal Imaging (TI) sight; 3) Image Intensification (II) sight; 4) Fused (TI and II) sight; 5) Fire control system; 6) Laser capability (pointer, designator, range finder); 7) Reflex sight; 8) Mounting systems.
