Tender description

According to the Council for Disabled Children “Short breaks should not be used just as crisis intervention but should help carers to maintain and improve the quality of care they want to and can provide.” Short Breaks are activities for children and young people with SEND that enable them to have fun, spend time with friends and build their confidence and skills in a safe environment. As well as promoting best outcomes for the child, the Children Act 1989 Schedule 2 requires Local Authorities to provide services designed to assist family carers of disabled children ‘to continue to [provide care], or to do so more effectively, by giving them breaks from caring’. This service shall deliver weekend short breaks for 48 weekends a year for C&YP aged between 5 and 18. The sessions will last for at least 5 hours and is available up to a fortnightly offer which would take place on a Saturday or a Sunday (C&YP may access the service up to every other weekend). At least 20 C&YP will be able to access a session. This service shall deliver residential short breaks for at least 6 weekends a year for C&YP aged between 8 and 18. The residential weekend will last for at least 45 hours and they will take place throughout the calendar year. At least 18 C&YP will be able to access a session
